Backgammon Introduction
Setting up the game
Backgammon is a game that is played on a game board which has twenty-four triangles that are called points. They are grouped into four groups of six and alternate in color. On one side of the game board you have a player’s home board and outer board, and the opposite side of the board is your opponent’s home board and otter board. There is a line down the middle of the board called a bar, which separates the home boards from the outer boards.
The points are numbered for both players’ starting in one player’s home board. The outer point is the twenty-four point to one player which is also the opponent’s one point. Each player has fifteen checkers in his or her own color. The arrangement of checkers is as follows for each player:
Two on the twenty-four point
Five on the thirteen point
Three on the eight point
Five on the six point
Each player has his or her own dice and dice cup, there is also a doubling cube. The doubling cube consists of the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and 64. It is used to keep the current stake of the game.
Object of the game
The object of the game is to get all your checks into your home board and then to move them off the board. The first player to get all of his or her checkers off the board wins the game.
